Week 2: Groupie Running

This week we started getting into the groove with our running routine. We'd get home after dark, throw on our clothes and grab the dog (more about this fiasco later). I had to work extra late 3 nights so running 4 days was pretty good. On Friday night I get this bright idea....we should do a group run! Luke's and other running clubs always start out and end up at Panera's during the weekly Saturday runs. Until now, we've only been an observer to this seemingly odd tradition. Get up at the butt crack'o'dawn, put on short shorts, tank, and a cap and hit the road....rain, sleet, cold, or shine. Then, eat, drink and chat with comrades while sweat drips off your body and most normal people are just having their first cup of brew. I was secretly envious. Three of us arrived at 7:30am to join the others. The parking lot was packed. As we get ready to start off, a large group of runners passed us by with a herder gathering folks as they ran by. Now, we were in the group. Yay! I made it. I had entered the runners life. We pounded the pavement and owned the road. All towards a common goal....well, until we got dropped, that is......

Week 1: Running in Freezing Temps

What a week to start running! It's been in the teens and twenties all week with wind chills below zero. Not something us Texans are used to. One day I didn't wear gloves and it felt like my hands were going to fall off. And, I thought screaming barfies were bad! We're starting out slow 1-2 miles a day to get our blood flowing. Daisy Duke has joined the running group, but she hasn't figured out what pacing is yet. She runs at full sprint pace and then hits the wall. Poor thing, I think she runs faster with 4 legs.

A Christmas Dream Revealed

This is the most thoughtful gift that I've ever received. Curtis spent so much time and energy on this blog and really made this a great Christmas. I have the best husband ever! Now, I have to admit, when he first showed me the site, I wasn't 100% on board. It's a nice thought, but one of those ideas that just kind of float around in your head without a real action plan. So, now what? Is this something I really WANT to do? Is this something I really CAN do? The running seems to be the worst so I decided to start there and see how it goes. And, Curtis said he was with me all the way....so here WE go!

Merry Christmas Sweet!

Well, it is here. I don’t know if you know it or not, but I have been building you a Triathlon Training Blog. Did you figure it out? Am I busted? This is all about encouraging you to not only Chase the Dreams, but to catch one. Here you will find Tools, Links, Training Log, Race Dates, man you name it, I think I have found it. BUT, there is always more. This is here for you. To help, to guide and to keep you motivated. I hope you LOVE IT. Check it out. I will Tri to keep it up. I love you. Merry Christmas. Now let’s go running. I know it’s cold. It might be raining, snow on the ground, maybe this is not the best choice. But what pic do you want on the blog later today? Couch or Run? You make the call. Remember, I am here to push you. I am here to make sure you achieve your goal. Do you remember what it is? Can you say it? Merry Christmas.

Run Melissa Run!

It has been a long time sense we have been running, but last night it happened. It was only a mile, but it was a mile. Me, you and Daisy pounding the pavement. Then back to the house for a Cross Fit 21-15-9. Then on to the couch for pizza, whisky and a movie! Only one more day of work before the holidays. Love you.

Nike Denmark Rep, Ole Estrada

Yesterday we spent the day with Ole, our friend from Denmark. We spent a few hours climbing and catching up. We hadn't seen Ole in over 3 years. As it turns out, Ole has started running and has really got in to it. It didn’t take long for Melissa to start talking about how she had trained for a Marathon in the past, but backed off after hitting 18 miles in a training session.

Ole had a really neat tool that he is using to track his running. He is using the Nike Running Pod that interfaces with his IPod. Melissa was mesmerized and the Christmas list just got a little longer.
